Ripon Police officer shows off tactical gear, use of social media in fighting crime

On Monday, Badger Boys State had the pleasure of welcoming Sergeant Lindsey Michels to speak on her career as a police officer and the different things she has experienced in her life as an officer.

She serves on the Ripon Police Department and said she thoroughly enjoys her job.

Michels explained the specific and unique duties she has to fulfill, as well as the different pieces of tactical gear she carries around to serve and protect her community.

One of the most interesting points she spoke about was about social media. Social media can actually be used as a method of fighting crime and catching suspected criminals, or for locating lost items or even family members.

After hearing what she had to say, there was a mood shift in the room. Not many people came in wanting to be an actual police officer or even a member of a police department.

After all was said and done, however, more and more people began to think about a career in law enforcement. This is especially true for me. Personally, I had no desire to be any sort of officer, but after the presentation I can firmly say that now it is a possibility.
