This afternoon, Wednesday the 12th, G.B. Jones, a retired FBI special agent who served on numerous task forces gave a presentation during special discussion time titled “A Career in the FBI with Special Agent G.B. Jones.”
Jones rocked the nearly completely packed Bear Auditorium, as his presentation focused on the inner workings of the FBI, different sectors within the FBI and the legal jurisdiction and power that the FBI has while governing not only the United States, but the world.
Jones opened up his presentation with how he got started in the FBI – detailing his life “catching drunk drivers and taking the bad guys to jail” within the Minnesota state patrol before he switched paths and joined the FBI.
The pivotal moment, according to Jones, that caused him to leave the state patrol was when he was writing a speeding ticket and a car struck him on the highway, launching him 150 feet away from his radio and squad car.
While at the FBI, Jones participated in a multitude of organizations, from violent crimes to domestic and international counter-terrorism, and working everywhere from the Midwest in Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Chicago to countries across the planet such as Bangladesh, Russia and Switzerland.
Over his illustrious career, Jones aided in the capture of criminals from Zacarias Moussaoui, the famous co-conspirator of the 9/11 bombings and the only who has been indited, to serial killers such as Dennis Rader, the BTK strangler.
Regardless of what career you choose to take in the path of life, Jones wrapped up his presentation with an important note.
“You have yourself and your character,” Jones said. He described and elaborated on how the things you do now can affect your potential career path and ability to secure job positions that you yearn for — an important piece of advice for a group of 17-something year-olds stuck in constant internal and external battles where every decision appears to matter.
His statement, especially coming from a man of his pedigree and status, appeared to resonate with the crowd of future doctors, mathematicians, scientists and community leaders, and served as a poignant, thought-provoking ending to an ineffable presentation.
