Citizens have chance encounter with white-tailed deer Tuesday morning

By Espen Storlie | City of McGovern, Dodge County

Nature is a beautiful thing, and even more beautiful when that nature interacts with humans in a shared area.

This is exactly what happened on Tuesday morning after the second school of instruction.

In specific, the member of nature that interacted with the citizens is the odocoileus viginianus, which is commonly known throughout Wisconsin as the white-tailed deer.

It was described very majestically by the citizens who witnessed the event.

Benjamin Savage from the city of Randall in Howe County described the event, “[The deer] pranced through the soccer field like a lawn fairy.”

The encounter with the deer was a very close one for more than one citizen. While some citizens got video of the deer from a distance, others were close to the action.

If it were not for a fortunate break in the line of citizens, the deer would likely have struck someone. It is estimated that there was a mere 15 feet of distance between the deer and the closest passerby.

In this time of excitement, citizens of both Badger Boys State and the real world are reminded that nature lives alongside us, and we must be aware of their presence along with our own.
