Many sports are kicking off today at Badger Boys State, with leagues vying to gain points for their respective cities. This is all in hopes to win the trophy signifying that their city is the best within sports overall. Some of these sports include basketball, tennis (singles and doubles), dodgeball and cross country.
Leagues will be facing off against each other one game per day, and this will persist through the entire week at BBS, with the only exception being cross county, as there will only be one meet on Friday.
Somewhat surprisingly, there is also a card game available as an option for one of the “sports”. This card game, called Euchre, involves 4 players divided into 2 teams. This game is unique in the fact that it only uses a 24-card deck consisting of the ace card, face cards, and 9 and 10 of each suit. The goal of Euchre is to score points by winning tricks.
The game starts when people are dealt cards and the top card of the pile is turned over. Order goes clockwise from the left of the dealer as players first must decide whether or not they want to call the top card’s suit as trump.
If all players pass, the order continues clockwise until someone calls a trump suit. Once the trump suit is called and the leading card is placed down, play continues clockwise as players place down cards to win the trick. In order to do so, they must place the highest value card out of all players based off of the leading card – unless of course they play a trump card.
The highest value card would be a Jack of the trump suit. All players must follow the suit of the leading card unless they don’t have any cards within that suit.
Be sure to watch the Euchre games during recreation time to learn more on how to play the game. These games will be occurring everyday, and will prove an essential element to the overall contest.
