“Night Court” brings relief to Doolittle sheriff after acquittal

By Phillip Balch | City of Taylor, Doolittle County

When it’s in the night hours in the City of Taylor, all the citizens sit in City Hall.

There’s disco lights, there’s laughing, there’s life on the line, there’s positions at stake and there’s a good time.

What’s being described is locally known as “Night Court,” Taylor’s best time of day. For the past few nights, the City of Taylor had trials for a few citizens who were accused of breaking statues and laws of Badger Boys State.

The City, led by the District Attorney, brings witnesses to the stand and interrogates them for the safety of the city. The most recent case was over the county’s sheriff being accused of breaking laws dealing with campaigning.

In the days leading up to it, many believed the defendant was guilty while another section of the populace believed the defendant was innocent. The only thing that could settle this argument was Night Court.

As Night Court came on, the defending lawyer worked to prove his client innocent. The District Attorney brought up many points to prosecute him, but the call was set to the jury.

As the jury came back into the courtroom, all fell silent. Then, it was time for the Court to settle the dispute. Doolittle’s sheriff was found innocent of all accused crimes.

There was a cheer in the courtroom and the sheriff lightened up with excitement. Through his hard work and talented lawyer, he was finally over with the burden of those who believed he was guilty.

The events portrayed capture just one session in Night Court, but one event that changed lives. Night Court has been described as the highlight of BBBS, and by some, the highlight of their life. It’s good to say, The City of Taylor will always stay united and proud with Night Court.
