Monday, June 11 saw the beginning of Schools of Instruction for Badger Boys State citizens.
Many citizens congregated in Todd Wehr Hall for the start of the Law School of Instruction, led by BBS Counselor Eric Weiss.
The meeting began with a brief video presentation followed by an introduction to the roles of lawyers and law in our society.
Next, citizens were informed of the the four course lessons to be taught throughout the next few days. These lessons consist of statutory interpretation, legal procedure, witness examination, and mock trial.
In order to expedite the teaching process, citizens were broken up into eight groups, or “colleges,” and sent into separate classrooms headed by different counseling staff. Each group will rotate through each of the four lessons throughout the next three days.
Citizens tackled their first lesson today. Tomorrow will see two more, with the final lesson taking place on Wednesday.
Following the final lesson on Wednesday, the session will culminate with the Bar exam that each citizen in the law course will take. Upon passing the exam, citizens will be full-fledged lawyers of BBS.
The session is not just for those seeking appointments as judges or attorneys, but offers skills that aid in research abilities, critical thinking and reasoning.
