‘Sister Act’ looks to lower tensions in the City of LaFollette about contacting other citizens’ families

By Dakota Maertz | City of LaFollette, Howe County

A new ordinance was proposed by a select few Alderman in the City of LaFollette on Tuesday night.

The ordinance was intended to prohibit citizens of LaFollette from contacting the sisters of other members of the city.

The ordinance was proposed after one citizen, who spoke off the record, was concerned about one of his fellow city members contacting his sister.

“Joking around was fine,” the source said. “It’s part of brotherhood. But, sliding into her DMs was a little too far.”

The citizen who reached out to the sister claims that it was all in good fun. He said he believes what he did is covered by the United States’ first amendment. He said until the ordinance is passed he doesn’t plan on stopping.

Although the ordinance is intended to be lighthearted, the creation of the ordinance is being taken very seriously. The ordinance was tabled temporarily for LaFollette officials to deal with the recent tornado that hit Howe County.

The Mayor, Alexander Sonsalla, plans to further discuss the ordinance at the next city meeting.

This “Sister Act,” as it has been satirically named, clearly specifies that all contact with another citizen’s family is strictly prohibited. This includes phone calls, text messages and social media.  However, there are exceptions in cases of emergency.

The ordinance will be brought up Wednesday night at the LaFollette city meeting. Citizens are expecting heated political discussion regarding the issue.
