Surprise candidate wins County Executive position through write-in vote

By Phillip Balch | City of Taylor, Doolittle County

On Monday, all of the citizens across the State of Badger participated in county elections which determined important roles for county positions.

One of the county positions determined was County Executive.

For Doolittle County, Henry Rogge, a public servant from the City of Taylor took the position. He was not listed as either Federalist or Nationalist on the ballot, but won as a write-in.

Many citizens throughout the Doolittle County are calling this event history in the making. When asked about the victory of the position, Rogge said he felt “ecstatic.”

“The Mayor of Taylor approached me and said there are some citizens who want you to be elected,” Rogge said.

The Mayor of Taylor, Trayton Thomas explained that when elected, he stood for all the people of the City of Taylor and that this write-in position was one way to have Taylor get a voice throughout Doolittle County.

Winning a position by a write-in is not an easy process.

Posters for Henry were set up all over the county. During the county convention on Monday night, citizens all over the convention center were shouting “Henry Rogge” for the position, and, when denied a speech, the county was outraged.

It was clear that at that point, the City of Taylor was going to have a hard time being represented. Many people of Taylor are saying that it is good to know that the city will be represented through this write in-winner.

Doolittle, although a county that is riddled with crime, has made miracles happen with this everlasting event.
