BBS counselors help ensure productive meetings, encourage citizens to run for positions

By Dylan Straube | City of Thompson, Howe County

The caucus for the Federalist Party in Howe county met Sunday and Monday to determine party positions and the party’s new political platform.

Honestly, this process was tedious and uneventful for the first 30 minutes, until it was finally helped along with good guidance from counselors Sam and Jack.

Personally, this was my first time being in an actual meeting completely run by people my age. It really gave me insight on how political meetings work.

What I got out of it was that Badger Boys State really has done a good job putting together an efficient and effective way for BBS citizens to get experience in running for city and county positions. The efficiency and seamlessness of this process really encourages BBS citizens to run for any position without fear.

This is due to the good work of the BBS counselors. They do as little as possible to let the citizens run the meetings themselves, but sometimes they do step in and assist.

Most of the time it’s due to improper parliamentary procedures. They also helped assist with any unnecessary conversations during the meeting but not as frequently. After the first 45 minutes, the chair stepped up and was able to hold order in the meeting.

In my opinion this is one of the main reasons why BBS is a unique and essential experience. You can’t get this type of leadership experience at our age anywhere else.
